Power in Prayer

Where is the power?

To look at the world around us, one thing is clear; people are obsessed with power. People want to command earning power in the job market and passing power on the roads. Power over their health and power to live longer lives. People want the power of technology and information. But is the power we really need in our salary, our cars, or in technology. Where is the power in any of these things to forgive our sins; to be faithful to God and to our spouses; to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord? God alone has the power over all of these and He has given us the avenue to tap into this power -PRAYER!

Have you ever stopped to think about how awesome it is that God hears you? The Almighty God who created the universe, who holds the whole world in His hand listens to you. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and end; He is the great “I AM”, and He listens to you! He is our “Abba” Father who hears when we speak to Him any hour of any day, anywhere we are! Even as you read this you can be communicating your thanksgiving and awe to Him! Father, you are so good to me, thank you for always listening.

He hears the prayers of the righteous and that is who we are. Not that we are righteous in and of ourselves, but God has made us righteous through the blood of Jesus (Romans 3) and He promises not only to hear our prayers but to answer them as well.

I am convinced that God answers every one of our prayers! Not just the prayers that are asked in a certain way or the ones we pray most frequently or the ones we pray together. God answers every prayer! The problem is that we, like little children, fail to understand that “yes” is not the only answer there is. Sometimes God, who is the perfect parent, says “no”! Sometimes God says, “wait a while for that one.” Are these all good answers? Of course they are because God only gives good gifts. The issue at hand is our faith. Do you trust that every answer that the Lord gives you is good? Do you believe that He always hears you and always answers you according to what you need? That is the real issue. Let’s put our trust in our Almighty God and Father!

TUESDAY: Read Luke 22:39-53 What did Jesus pray in v. 42? Do you think the Father heard His prayer? What happens in v. 47-53? What was God’s answer to Jesus’ prayer? Was that a good answer?

WEDNESDAY: Read Luke 11:1-13. What did the disciples want top learn? Rewrite the prayer that Jesus gave them in your own words. What is it that Jesus was teaching them in this prayer? What do you think is the main thing Jesus is teaching them in verses 5-8? What is the main lesson He is teaching in verses 9-13? Apply these lessons in your life and God will certainly bless you richly!

THURSDAY: Read Luke 18:1-8 What is Jesus teaching in this parable? In verse 8 you notice the question that needs to be answered. Jesus does not ask whether or not the Father will answer our prayers does He? What question does He ask in v. 8?

FRIDAY: Read Psalm 28 . What is the writer asking for as he begins his prayer (see v.1 and 2). Notice what he is saying immediately after that in verse 6? Read Psalm 55 and you will see something similar. David prays to God and in the same prayer he thanks Him for answering! Let’s strive to have faith like David and understand that God answers our every prayer! Remember the answer is not always “yes” but it is always a good answer.

*Family Devotional Ideas:

1. Read Proverbs 15:8, 29 with your family and talk about what it means? Share some of the prayers that God has answered for your family. Have your children give examples of prayers they have had answered. Discuss how “yes”, “no”, and “wait a while” are all good answers. Pray together as a family and remember to thank God for always listening and for always giving good answers (gifts).

During these stressful times, we want to offer our prayers and encouragement to any who are interested. Our leaders are available to help, please let us know by emailing info@nulllicoc.org.
